A Study on Nosocomial Infection

Abstract
The authors investigated the survey of hospital hygine to evaluate the status of contamianation by airborne and contact route using air sampler and dip slide system in 57 different places of air and 64 subjects of contact route during period from
Apr.
to Nov. of 1995 in a General Hospital in Pusan. And the frequency of contaminating organism and their antibiotic susceptibility were studied.
@ES The results were summerized as followings:
@EN 1. Of 41 different places in hospital, 8 places were found to be air contaminated and 10 of 17 places around operation room were to be contaminated.
2. The average rate of contamination were more prominent in operation room (22.0 CFU/ft3) than in wards (17.3 CFU/ft3).
3. Places where many people were crowded, as emergency room and ICU had higher contamination rate.
4. The distribution of organism isolated from air sampler and dip slide system pseudomonas, CNS gram positive bacilli in order and resistant strains for antimicrobial agent were increasing.
One the basis of the results obtained and review of literature, hospital air contaminating organisms are in close relation to nosocomial infection and occurrence of new pathogenic organism, especially those are resistant to antibiotics, are of
special
importance in treating patients. Hence, surveillance program for nosocomoial infection should be establish each hospital, which may be reduce effectively nosocomial infection.
